Congratulations to Austin & Virginia who were married recently at the Hallockville Museum Barn in Riverhead, NY. Special thanks to Laura Boyd, the amazingly talented photographer who captured these moments and shared them with us today.
I describe this wedding as “charming homespun goodness meets elegant simplicity.” As they say, it’s all in the details. Especially when most of the lovely decorations were handmade by the bride and groom! Right down to the bride’s homemade strawberry jams and syrups guests enjoyed as wedding favors.
Even the gorgeous bridal shawl was hand-knitted by Virginia. From the grapevine balls strung with lights to the hand-made dragonflies on the tables, every last detail speaks to the earth-loving sustainability of this wedding.
When I first heard about Clay Hill Farm’s Green Wedding Giveaway, I knew I had to become involved. After all, this wonderfully educational and inspiring contest is a chance to further explore ideals that are very near and dear to my heart: commitment to love and commitment to the earth. Can we celebrate love and wedded bliss with small changes that bring about eco-harmony? I believe so.
Being “green” is about being who you are, and the little steps you take each day to live a greener lifestyle. Everyone is different in what they do, but everyone can make a difference. Whatever shade of green you are, it’s beautiful to Mother Nature.
And, when two become one in marriage, it presents a unique opportunity to explore the possibilities of making a difference together. Why not start with greening the wedding tradition that sets the stage for your new life?
Thanks to Clay Hill Farm and its eco-fabulous group of sponsors, you have a chance to win the green wedding of your dreams! To enter, contestants are asked to tell their story in a play, a video, a painting, a poem, a song, an essay or whatever suits their fancy. Pick your shade and shout it to the world… and anyone can enter for a chance to win a green wedding prize package valued at over $40,000.
Today’s brides are becoming more “eco-conscious” and “budget-conscious” as they plan their wedding. We stumbled upon a great resource that’s perfect for green brides looking to save some green!
Recycled Bride is a FREE marketplace that connects buyers and sellers of all sorts of gently used wedding items. From wedding veils to vintage rings, dresses to décor, shoes to accessories, and more!
Not only will brides save money with designer items discounted up to 80%, they can reduce the carbon footprint of their special day. How? Buying pre-owned wedding items reduces the consumption of natural resources, in comparison to newly manufactured items. The same applies to handmade and organic wedding favors made from recycled materials.
With 2.5 million weddings per year in the US, you can make a difference by becoming a recycled bride! BONUS—Recycled Bride donates a portion of its Google Ad revenue to Global Green USA!
We are so proud of our newest collection of eco-friendly wedding favors. As a bird lover (did you see our logo?), I am in love with these all-natural, hand-made birdseed wedding favors. Available in hearts, peace dove or circle of love, these charming favors are made from natural organic ingredients.
There’s no shortage of ideas for outdoor weddings, farm weddings and any eco-event!
-Hang them as a decoration around your outdoor wedding.
-Make a wonderful table centerpiece with flower pots used to hold tree branches and then hang these bird seed hearts on them for decorations.
-Place a note at each centerpiece to tell your guests to take one home to feed the birds.
-Decorate individual place settings, put them in handmade baskets to hand out as favors, or even use as napkin holders.
Adding to the “eco-cuteness” is the personalized tag, which is printed on recycled paper and attached with hemp twine. Wish I had these for my outdoor garden wedding (many years ago!).

I’m continually amazed by creative and beautiful ways to preserve fun wedding traditions, but with a new eco-friendly twist that helps to preserve our earth. And, these new green wedding garters by Julianne Smith (a.k.a. Garter Girl) are no exception.
This first-of-its-kind green wedding garter collection is truly eco-unique! Take one look at these gorgeous garters and you would never guess they originated from recycled plastic water bottles. That’s right! This environmentally friendly wedding garter is hand-made with ribbon woven from yarn made of 100% post consumer polyester that comes entirely from recycled plastic bottles. Who says you have to sacrifice tradition and style to have a green wedding? Did we mention they are soft to the touch? Eco-fabulous! Mix and match four fab colors for a custom-made design.
